Becoming worm

Type | Workshop/Garden    Year | 2023    Project site | LaTrappe, France

Client | Fuite Cosmique Festival

Collaborators | Alicia Ville

The workshop focused on the practice of Hügelkultur, a method of creating fertile soil by layering various strata of organic matter and seeds, then compacting them into a mound that gradually decomposes into nutrient-rich soil. This technique was transformed into a collective ritual, where participants were invited not only to engage in the technical process but also to explore how botanical and agricultural practices can evolve into communal rituals, fostering an entangled ecology between the collective, the soil, and the roots it depends on.

To support this process, two mediums were introduced: rhythm&tools. Working to the pace of music, each layer was added and then mixed through movement and dance. A series of tools, including wooden compacting shoes, rakes, kneepads, and sticks, were crafted to aid in the mixing, turning the physical labour into a shared, embodied experience.
